Blowdown valves
Blowdown valves at the bottom of the boiler.
Deposits build up very quickly at the bottom of industrial steam boilers. These deposits can only be eliminated effectively by abruptly opening and closing a valve on the underside of the boiler; this is called intermittent blowdown. This is an extremely demanding application which requires a robust and reliable product.
The GESTRA blowdown valve achieves this by opening very quickly, for just two seconds, with the result that a vacuum is created at the bottom of the boiler. The resulting suction removes settled sediment, also called boiler sludge, from the bottom of the boiler. The valve is designed to close securely and without leaking. The blowdown effect is only effective during the first two seconds. Opening the valve for longer would merely lead to water loss.
